Vegan Austin: A Neighborhood Guide
Taco and burger trucks sharing a food park on East Cesar Chavez, punk cupcakes in North Loop, a daily macrobiotic menu near Barton Springs — where to eat plant-based in Austin, one neighborhood at a time.
East Cesar Chavez and East Austin
The Vegan Nom Food Park is a good place to start: The Vegan Nom runs its all-vegan taco truck there, with breakfast tacos, the Birdie Sanders taco and a Korean BBQ burrito, and its sister truck, Nom Burgers, flips smashed-patty burgers like its OG cheeseburger and the Birdie Burger. Across the street, Arlo's Junior serves plant-based burgers, mac 'n cheez and fried pickles from a window inside the LOVEBIRDS cocktail lounge, with picnic tables outside.
Further east in Govalle, ATX Food Co cooks organic, alkaline vegan food like the Chickpea Power Bowl. Back on East Cesar Chavez, Mr. Natural isn't all-vegan (some dishes have cheese or egg), but the Mendoza family has run it since 1988, and nearly everything can be made vegan, from the tamales to the tofu migas.
Downtown, West Campus and North Loop
Downtown, Next Level Burger serves 100% vegan burgers and shakes, the Maverick among them, from a counter inside the Whole Foods flagship on Lamar. Near campus on Guadalupe, Nori is an all-vegan sushi bar: vegetable nigiri, eggplant katsu, ginger miso ramen and beet fries.
Up in North Loop, Zucchini Kill Bakery sells 100% vegan, gluten-free cupcakes, donuts and "cream coffins" from a riot-grrrl-themed shop in Possum Park, a vegan food lot.
Tarrytown
Two plant-based kitchens now share a stretch of Windsor Road. Community Kitchen + Taproom opened in April 2026, growing out of the Community Vegan food truck, with vegan Southern comfort food: fried chick'n biscuits, Korean BBQ fries, baked mac and cheese and cornbread. Next door, Fabrik Austin reopened in July 2026 after moving from East MLK, serving a fully plant-based tasting menu that changes with the seasons, with dishes like mushroom cappelletti and banana miso mousse.
Zilker, Bouldin Creek and South Austin
Near Barton Springs, Casa de Luz is a non-profit that cooks a single organic, macrobiotic menu that changes daily: soup, salad and a plate of grains, beans, dark leafy greens and vegetables, served at communal tables. On South First, Bouldin Creek Cafe isn't all-vegan (it's vegetarian, with egg and dairy dishes), but the vegan side of the menu runs from the tofu Renedict to a tofu scramble and the Ruby Reuben.
Far down South First, Revolution Vegan Kitchen parks its truck in the Thicket Food Park, cooking Tex-Mex plates, al pastor tacos, notzarella sticks and a Philly cheesesteak.
Mueller and North Austin
At Mueller, Mission Burger Mueller is a fully vegan burger restaurant with a dining room and a shaded patio, serving a double Mission burger with special sauce and grilled onions and a vegan brisket sandwich. Up Research Boulevard, Nissi Vegan Méxican Cuisine, which started as a food truck, serves fully vegan birria, al pastor and carne asada tacos, flautas and hemp horchata.
