Vegan Philadelphia: A Neighborhood Guide
Vegan tapas in Queen Village, Caribbean soul food in Germantown, doughnuts with no dairy or eggs — where to eat plant-based in Philadelphia, one neighborhood at a time.
Center City
Vedge on Locust Street does all-vegan fine dining: chefs Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby opened it in 2011, and the menu is built on seasonal vegetables. Around Rittenhouse, Bar Bombon cooks plant-based Puerto Rican food with tacos on homemade tortillas, and Monster Vegan on Spruce turns oyster mushrooms into fried "calamari" and seitan into corned beef, with tiki cocktails alongside.
In Reading Terminal Market, LUHV Vegan Deli opened in 2018 as the market's first fully vegan stand, and it is certified kosher. Just north in Fairmount, Unit Su Vege is vegetarian rather than all-vegan, but most of its Chinese menu is plant-based — dim sum like shumai and taro cake, General Tso's tofu.
Queen Village and South Philly
Along 4th Street, Fitz on 4th serves vegan tapas and cocktails (the kitchen is certified kosher pareve), Lightbox Cafe calls itself Philadelphia's first kava bar and pours ceremonial cacao and smoothies too, and further down, Grindcore House has been an all-vegan coffeehouse since 2010. Two blocks west on 6th Street, Dottie's Donuts Queen Village fries doughnuts with no dairy or eggs — "even the Boston cream", the shop says.
Deeper into South Philly, The Tasty is an all-vegan diner with counter service, a Dirty Jersey made with vegan pork roll and doughnuts baked in-house. Batter and Crumbs is a vegan bakery and coffee shop (the Spinach Jawn is on the menu), Cheezy Vegan cooks comfort food like a South Philly roast beef, and Miss Rachel's Pantry runs a reservation-only, five-course BYOB dinner, with dates posted on the first Friday of each month.
Northern Liberties and Kensington
On North 2nd Street, Pietramala cooks from local Mid-Atlantic produce with no fake meats. A few doors up, chef Alice Leung has cooked vegan food at Joy Cafe for more than 20 years; the mushroom pho and the vegan cheesesteak wrap are both on the menu. In East Kensington, Casa Borinqueña opened in 2025 as the Philadelphia outpost of a California kitchen, with a BBQ pincho sampler of vegan chicken skewers, arroz con gandules and maduros.
West Philly
Dottie's Donuts Cedar Park on Springfield Avenue is where the doughnut shop opened its first storefront, in 2016. Nearby, two vegan-friendly kitchens: Abyssinia on 45th Street serves an Ethiopian veggie combo of lentils, split peas and collard greens, and Vientiane Café, which bills itself as the city's first Laotian restaurant, will swap tofu into most dishes. It is cash only and BYOB.
Germantown and the Northwest
Two all-vegan kitchens share a stretch of Germantown Avenue. The Nile Cafe cooks what it calls vegan Caribbean soul food, jerk chicken and stew fish among it, and All The Way Live, opened in 2010 by Beverly Medley and her daughter Nyeisha Cabiness, serves raw and cooked plates like raw lasagna and kale with BBQ mushrooms.
Crust Vegan Bakery moved from Manayunk to Ridge Avenue in East Falls in early 2026, bringing the pop-tarts it is best known for and adding dairy-free soft serve. Up in Wissahickon, Dottie's Donuts Wissahickon on Rochelle Avenue sells the same all-vegan doughnuts.
