America's Biggest Vegan Restaurant Chains, Counted

Loving Hut, Veggie Grill, Slutty Vegan and a wave of plant-based burger shops: which 100% vegan chains have the most locations in our directory, and where to find them.

How we counted

The Sept. 30, 2026 edition of the Vegaholic directory lists 500 fully vegan restaurants in the United States: places where the whole menu is plant-based. We grouped them by name and kept every name that appears at two or more locations. That leaves 29 multi-location names covering 118 restaurants, a little under a quarter of all the fully vegan kitchens we track.

These are counts of what is mapped in our directory, not each company's official store count. Franchised shops open and close, and a chain's own website may list locations we haven't added yet. If you know one we're missing, the suggest form reaches us.

Loving Hut: the biggest by a distance

Loving Hut appears 20 times in the edition, across eight states, more than any other fully vegan name. Half of those are in California, from Garden Grove, Orange and Huntington Beach in Orange County to two in San Diego and one in San Francisco. Arizona has three (Phoenix, Glendale and Tempe), Florida has two (Orlando and Tampa), and there are single locations in Peachtree Corners, Georgia; Worcester, Massachusetts; Cincinnati; Arlington, Texas; and Falls Church, Virginia.

Menus and hours vary from one Loving Hut to the next, so check the listing for the one near you before you go.

Veggie Grill: the West Coast fast-casual standard

Veggie Grill is the second-biggest name, with 17 locations in the edition, and the most concentrated. Twelve are in California, mostly around Los Angeles: two in the city itself, plus Santa Monica, Pasadena, Burbank, Long Beach, El Segundo, Calabasas, Lomita and Tustin, with Carlsbad and San Jose further out. Portland and Beaverton in Oregon have one each, Seattle has two, and Cambridge, Massachusetts is the lone East Coast location in our directory.

The format is counter service, with burgers, sandwiches, bowls and salads, which makes it an easy lunch stop when you don't have time to research.

The plant-based burger wave

Burgers are where most of the chain growth is. Next Level Burger has six locations in the edition, spread across Austin, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Concord in California and Lake Oswego in Oregon. Plant Power also has six, all in California: two in San Diego, plus Long Beach, Redlands, Sacramento and West Hollywood. Slutty Vegan, which Pinky Cole started in Atlanta in 2018, has six too: two in Atlanta, Athens and Duluth elsewhere in Georgia, one in Baltimore and one in New York.

Smaller regional names fill in the map. Meta Burger has three Colorado locations (Denver, Boulder and Edgewater), and PLNT Burger has two, in Boston and Washington, D.C. Mission Burger Co. has two, in Austin and the Atlanta area, and Monty's Good Burger has two in Los Angeles.

Doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and other sweet chains

Cinnaholic, the cinnamon-roll franchise, has at least five fully vegan shops in the edition, in Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans, Tucson and Gilbert, Arizona. Two doughnut makers have built small chains in their home cities: Dottie's Donuts has four Philadelphia shops, and Mighty-O Donuts has three in Seattle.

Regional favorites with a handful of locations

HipCityVeg has two Philadelphia locations and one in Washington, D.C. Le Botaniste has three in New York. Native Foods appears four times, in San Diego, Encinitas, Palm Springs and Glendale, Colorado. Mr. Charlie's has four California counters, and Tane Vegan Izakaya has three locations, in Berkeley, Palo Alto and Honolulu. In Chicago, Penelope's Vegan Taqueria has three.

What the chains tell you about the map

California is where vegan chains have taken hold. Of the state's 97 fully vegan restaurants in the edition, 49 share a name with at least one other location, about half. Everywhere else, fully vegan dining is still mostly independent: outside California, only 69 of the 403 fully vegan restaurants in the edition belong to a multi-location name.

For a traveler, that's a useful rule of thumb. In Southern California there's often a Veggie Grill, Plant Power or Loving Hut nearby. In most other states, the best fully vegan meal in town is a one-off, which is exactly why it's worth looking up before you go.
