Vegan Minneapolis: Where to Eat Plant-Based

A vegan butcher in Northeast, Ethiopian on Franklin Avenue, brunch on Lyndale Avenue and a pizza chain with a vegan menu: here's where to eat in Minneapolis.

Start on Lyndale Avenue South

Lyndale Avenue South does a lot of the work for vegan eating in Minneapolis: Dreamstate Cafe, World Street Kitchen and Abi's all sit along it. The rest of the list is spread across the city, from a vegan butcher in Northeast to Ethiopian on Franklin Avenue.

Fully vegan, from sandwiches to Ethiopian

The Herbivorous Butcher on 1st Avenue NE, in Northeast, is fully vegan, with sandwiches like the Italian Cold Cut Sandwich, a Hot Brat and a Cubano Crunchwrap. Lulu EthioVegan Cuisine on East Franklin Avenue is a fully vegan Ethiopian restaurant, and Trio Plant-Based in Midtown Global Market is a fully vegan soul food restaurant.

Cafés and brunch

Dreamstate Cafe on Lyndale Avenue South is fully vegan, with a Yucca Hash, Sweet Potato Biscuits and Gravy, a Weekend Poutine, a Curtido Benedict and Shredded Burnt End Nachos. Reverie on East 35th Street is fully vegan too, with Bulgogi Cauliflower, Mojo Smoked Brussels Sprouts, a Smoked Potato Salad and a BLT Salad, and it has outdoor seating.

Gigi's Cafe on West 36th Street has a Vegan Breakfast Burrito and Grilled Tofu among its vegan dishes, and Glam Doll Donuts on Nicollet Avenue sells vegan donuts such as the Vegan Cookies & Cream and the Vegan Strawberry Sweetie.

Pizza, tacos and global menus

Pizza Lucé has three Minneapolis listings and a vegan menu that includes Lucky Bird Nuggets and a Roasted Beet Flatbread, plus pizzas that can be made vegan, such as the Butternut Squash Pizza and the Elote Pizza. Wrecktangle Pizza on West Lake Street has a Cheese Pizza and a Veggie Lovers Pizza that can be made vegan.

World Street Kitchen on Lyndale Avenue South serves Mushroom Bulgogi Lettuce Wraps and a Falafel Banh Mi that can be made vegan. Abi's, also on Lyndale, makes Vegan Pupusas, Salsa a la Salsa has Nopalitos con Jackfruit and Tacos al Pastor, and Nokko on Nicollet Avenue offers Caulini Tempura and avocado and shiitake temaki.

Where a restaurant isn't fully vegan, the dishes we name are ones its menu marks vegan or vegan on request, so confirm with staff when you order. Menus and hours change, so check before you go. Know a spot we're missing? Suggest it.
