Vegan Rochester, NY: Where to Eat Plant-Based

In the Sept. 30, 2026 edition of our vegan restaurant statistics, Rochester ranks fourth in the country for fully vegan restaurants per 100,000 residents, ahead of Portland, Atlanta and Philadelphia. It's one of the best-kept secrets in vegan eating in the Northeast, and almost all of it is within a few miles of downtown.

Natural Oasis on Monroe Avenue cooks a fully vegan Ethiopian menu, serving lunch most days and dinner Wednesday through Saturday in the hours we have listed. Further out on Monroe, Grass Fed Vegan Butcher is an all-vegan butcher and sandwich shop with outdoor seating.

Red Fern on Oxford Street is a sit-down, fully vegan restaurant with an American menu and gluten-free options, open Tuesday through Saturday.

Squatcho's on East Main Street downtown bakes fully vegan pizza, with lunch and dinner hours that close in the middle of the afternoon. Further east, Clownboy Coffee on East Main Street is an all-vegan café that opens at 7 a.m. and closes Tuesdays.

Just over the town line, Hollycake House Café & Bakery on Main Street in East Rochester is a fully vegan bakery and café with gluten-free options. It keeps short Thursday-to-Sunday morning hours, so it's a weekend stop.
